Entrapment, the inability to escape a vehicle in the event of an emergency, is a very real threat to motorists. According to the US Bureau of Transportation Statistics last publication, there are over 42,000 crash fatalities each year. That is almost 1 death every 12 minutes. Of these, an estimated 500 people died while helplessly trapped inside their vehicles. Along with water related incidents, a potential factor in this disturbing number of emergencies is the growing prevalence of power windows that can become jammed due to submersion or fire. At just a hair over 3-inches in length and .6 ounces, ResQMe easily fits on to your keychain with a detachable clip. This small size also allows it to be stored in any number of places convenient to the driver, including a hanging position directly on the the steering or shifting columns, or in the extra key compartment under the dash. In the event of an entrapment pull the clip away from the product to reveal the cutter (blade). Hook this over a jammed seat belt and pull to free yourself. To activate the window breaker, simply push the black head against a side window until the concealed spring-loaded spike releases and shatters the window. Shattering a side window with ResQMe takes as little as 12 lb Of pressure, meaning that virtually anyone can use it. And the fact that the blade can stand up to several uses and that the spike is easily loaded back into the ready position means that you will always be ready if you are unfortunate enough to be faced with another emergency incident. This is a great tool. Its about 3" long by 1.25" wide and .625" thick. Thats roughly the same size as a standard remote keyfob. It is very lightweight so it doesn't make your keys too heavy either.
I chose the yellow so it would be easy to find, and so far it's helped me find my keys at least 20 times. To top it off it comes in a set of 2.
The basic concept is easy. There are two tools, one to cut the seat belt and one to break open the window. The tool attaches to the keychain by a plastic clip that snaps on firmly and doubles as the seat belt cutter protective cover.
When you need it you can just grab it and pull away from the keyring, leaving the keys in the ignition. Slip it over the seatbelt and pull. Slices like butter. Then press the larger end against the window and press. No need to smack or swing or use any force at all. The spring loaded punch will do the work for you. The hardened metal point pops into the window smashing it easily. Try it on a cardboard box, or a piece of scrap wood and you can see the dent it makes. Don't try it on your window though, unless you are ready to buy a new piece of glass.
There is a note in the instructions warning that it does not work on laminated safety glass. Front windshields use that type to keep the pieces from cutting you if it breaks. It makes that milky spiderweb look and holds all the pieces together.
I have had the lifehammer tool, but there is no good place to keep it. If I needed it, would I have time, or even be able to find in the glove box or the bottom of the center console? I doubt it. With the ResQMe keychain, its right at the ignition, where you could reach it any time. This is a fantastic improvement.
It comes in several colors too help accesorize too. Personally I love the yellow. Comes in package of 2 so you have one for your loved one too.

You'll never know how valuable this device is until you need it, but I feel better knowing that I am now better prepared for some various car disasters. The keychain is very light and of a small enough size that I don't think it adds much to my usual set of keys and pocket knife. I think it is a lot more practical than the full-size LifeHammer which would require you to mount that device to your car. This keychain version allows you to have it on you in case you are the passenger in somebody else's car. I also recommend that anybody who purchases this device actually rehearse what they would need to do prior to an actual disaster. Another reviewer mentioned the Discovery channel's series MythBusters. There is an episode where they test various strategies inside a car that they submerge into a swimming pool. I highly recommend you try to find that episode and watch it and go to other sites. Being mentally prepared without this device is better than being mentally unprepared even with this device. So the device is excellent for what it is, a simple tool and not a complete solution.

I've had this for over nine years. It's taken a lot of abuse on my keychain, and never fallen off; and I have a LOT of keys on my chain. Contrary to the review from the person saying it didn't break glass--mine has, as well as put some huge dents in "practice and demo" materials. I've had a seatbelt cutter/glass break combo tool in my vehicle for years--but this one is always with me. I hope I never have to use it, but if I come upon an accident when I'm with someone else--it's also with me on my keys. Not to mention NOT having to locate it in my vehicle if the need should arise, and split-second timing may be paramount.
